A man entered the Epicenter and took goods from the shelves totaling 4,128 hryvnias. He attempted to leave the hypermarket with the stolen items, but was stopped by security. This information is detailed in the ruling of the Babushkinsky District Court of Dnipropetrovsk (the legal name of the court), published on July 9, 2024.

On February 24, 2024, the man stole a set of metal drills, a razor, five pairs of socks, a set of spoons, four chocolate bars, women's perfume, two air fresheners, two packs of shaving cartridges, and an air freshener from the shelves at the "Epicenter K" hypermarket, totaling 4,128 hryvnias. He attempted to exit the premises but was stopped by a security employee.

During the court hearing, the man fully admitted his guilt. He stated that on February 24, 2024, around 7:00 PM, he entered the "Epicenter" hypermarket, where he took various items, including drills, a razor, socks, cartridges, perfume, air freshener, spoons, and chocolate, which he concealed in his jacket pocket. He then headed toward the exit and passed through the checkout area without paying for the items. However, outside the checkout area, he was stopped by security personnel who confiscated the stolen goods.

What punishment did the court impose?

The court found the man guilty of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment. Based on Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he was released from serving the imposed sentence on probation, provided he does not commit a new criminal offense during the one-year probation period. He was also ordered, in accordance with subparagraphs 1 and 2 of Part 1 of Article 76 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, to periodically appear for registration at the authorized probation agency and to inform the authorized probation agency of any changes in his residence, employment, or education. Additionally, he will be required to pay documented expenses incurred by the LNDKTS for conducting the judicial commodity examination in the amount of 4,543 hryvnias to the state.
