Emergency recovery operations are ongoing due to the aftermath of the massive missile and drone attack on the energy system on November 28. Consumption limitation measures will be enforced for residential consumers, industry, and businesses throughout the day. This was reported by Ukrenergo on November 29.
As a result of the large-scale Russian missile and drone attack on the energy system of Ukraine the previous day, Kherson, Kherson District, and part of Mykolaiv region remain without power. Emergency recovery efforts are being conducted around the clock. By the end of the current day, energy workers plan to restore power to the disconnected consumers in Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.
"As of 05:00 on November 29, the level of electricity consumption was 9.7% lower than at the same time the previous day — Thursday. This is attributed to a significant volume of limitation measures being implemented. The energy system continues to recover after eleven massive attacks by the occupiers, and there is still a considerable power deficit. Emergency repairs are ongoing at energy facilities. Hourly power outages for residential consumers and power limitation schedules for industry and businesses are being enforced throughout the day on November 29," Ukrenergo explained.
The situation in the energy system is changing, and accordingly, there may be adjustments in the application of limitation measures. For the current schedule of outages in the region, please check the website or the official pages of the distribution system operator (oblenergo).
"Due to adverse weather conditions, as of the morning of November 29, 14 settlements remained without power: 11 in Chernihiv region and 3 in Volyn region. Emergency recovery operations are also ongoing in these areas," emphasized Ukrenergo.
Electricity imports will occur throughout the day from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and Moldova, totaling 8,276 MWh, with a maximum capacity of up to 781 MW during certain hours.
The occupiers attempted to cut off nuclear power plants from Ukraine's energy system through a massive shelling on November 28. They only partially succeeded. This was stated by Volodymyr Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Centre, in a comment on the YouTube channel of "RBK-Ukraine".
"The main idea behind the terrorist act by the Russian Federation was to cut off Ukraine's nuclear power plants, which are the primary energy resource providing up to 60% of the electricity in the system. They aimed to sever this resource from the unified energy system of Ukraine. We see that they partially succeeded, but only partially. In principle, the system is under control," Omelchenko noted.
According to him, the Russians are now trying to completely destroy the energy system as quickly as possible, as they approach the end of the "rules of the game" established between the current administration of the U.S. president and the Kremlin.
"These rules were extremely disadvantageous for Ukraine. What the rules will be under a new administration is unknown. Therefore, Russia is in a hurry to take advantage of this window of opportunity, and it is closing very quickly," Omelchenko added.
