A man took 11 tubes of toothpaste from the shelves of Epicenter, amounting to a total of 753 hryvnias. He attempted to leave the hypermarket, but was apprehended by security. This is mentioned in the ruling of the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv, published on December 14, 2023.
On February 20, 2020, the man took 11 units of toothpaste from the shelves of the "Epicenter" hypermarket. He concealed the stolen items in his bag and headed towards the exit, but was stopped by the security service. As a result of committing this criminal offense, if proven, the citizen could have caused property damage to LLC "Epicenter-K" amounting to a total of 753 hryvnias (excluding VAT).
During the court hearing, the man fully admitted his guilt and confirmed the circumstances of the criminal offense he committed, detailing the circumstances and the mechanism of the act as outlined in the above ruling. He did not contest the factual circumstances of the case or the value of the property and sincerely regrets his actions.
The court found the man guilty of committing a criminal offense as defined in part 2 of Article 15 and part 2 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 1 year of imprisonment. Based on Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he was released from serving the imposed sentence under probation, with a probation period of 1 year. In accordance with Article 76 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the citizen was required to periodically appear for registration at the authorized body for probation (criminal executive inspection) and to inform the authorized body for probation (criminal executive inspection) of any changes in his residence or employment.
