The Office of the Prosecutor General has reported two new instances of the execution of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers. Three Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed by Russian occupiers on October 23, and another three on November 1. The Office of the Prosecutor General announced these war crimes on November 5.
According to the investigation, during the assault on the city of Selydove on October 23, Russian occupiers captured three Ukrainian soldiers. After some time, they executed the unarmed prisoners of war.
Additionally, on November 1, during an assault on the fortifications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the same area, the Russians "killed three prisoners of war with automatic weapons," the Office of the Prosecutor General reported. Prosecutors stressed that these actions violate the Geneva Conventions and are classified as international crimes.
Law enforcement has initiated pre-trial investigations into the war crimes that resulted in the deaths of prisoners of war (part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Verkhovna Rada, Dmytro Lubinets, reported that he has documented over a hundred cases of the execution of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers who surrendered. Ukraine is making efforts to gather evidence of these executions, while international organizations turn a blind eye to the killings without issuing arrest warrants for the occupiers. The Russians resort to executing prisoners for several reasons, including for Russian propaganda.
On October 21, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported another execution of Ukrainian soldiers. It was noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine fell into a trap during the Russian assault on a forested area near the city of Selydove. They were captured unarmed around 14:38 on October 18. The Office of the Prosecutor General added that the soldiers were laid face down on the ground, with their feet pressed down. After some time, the Ukrainian defenders were shot at close range.
The enemy executed 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Pokrovsk direction. This information was confirmed by the Office of the Prosecutor General on October 1. An investigation has been launched regarding this new war crime committed by the Russian army - a violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, this is the largest case of the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war during the war.
