Damage to energy facilities following shelling will not hinder Christmas celebrations. People's Deputy Serhiy Nahornyak stated that in regions without strikes, power supply will be restored in the coming hours. The damage to the energy sector is non-critical.

Nahornyak reported this during an interview on Novyny Live. According to him, the damage to the energy infrastructure after the recent Russian shelling is not of a critical nature. Power will be restored in the regions where strikes did not occur within the next few hours. Nahornyak assured that Ukraine will continue to celebrate Christmas, despite Russia's attempts to disrupt it.

"Putin will not succeed in preventing us from celebrating Christmas today. Ukrainians will definitely celebrate this day, and power will return in the coming hours where there were no strikes," he assured.

The deputy added that although there were strikes on certain thermal power plants and other energy facilities, these damages will not alter the overall picture of the Ukrainian energy sector.

"There is damage, but it is not critical for our generation system. It will not have a significant impact on the energy balance," Nahornyak explained.

The deputy paid special attention to Kharkiv, where Russians continuously attempt to target energy facilities. According to him, the city is well-prepared for potential attacks, and backup power sources will be utilized to ensure heat supply.

Russian Attack on Christmas: What We Know

After the nighttime Shahed attack, the Russians launched Tu-95MS planes from Olenya, which indicated preparations for a more serious strike that had been planned in advance by the Kremlin even on Christmas Eve. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that the massive attack by Russia on the night of Christmas demonstrated the Kremlin's unwillingness to even discuss the possibility of a ceasefire.

Following the shelling on December 25, Ukrenergo introduced hourly power outage schedules. Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko emphasized that Ukraine's energy system was under attack from Russia.

Russia, in particular, struck DTEK thermal power plants. As a result, the equipment was severely damaged. Before the attack, it was planned to celebrate Christmas without power outages. On December 24, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Center Volodymyr Omelchenko stated that there were no power outages expected for Christmas. He added that on the eve of December 23, some emergency damages were rectified, and there are currently no such issues.
