The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation attacked the territory of Ukraine with "Shahed"-type strike drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles on the night of Sunday, December 8. The enemy launched drones from five locations, totaling 74 units. The Ukrainian Air Defense successfully repelled Russia's aerial assault, but most of the enemy drones were lost geographically. Defenders of the Ukrainian sky operated in eight regions.
Regarding how many Russian drones were shot down by Ukrainian Air Defense, reports were made by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The military emphasized that this time they managed to shoot down 28 Russian drones. Additionally, 46 unmanned aerial vehicles were lost geographically.
The military reported that the Air Defense forces operated in eight regions of Ukraine: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia.
They added that in Dnipropetrovsk region, in Kamianske, the property of citizens and their homes were damaged due to the fall of a shot-down Shahed.
During the latest attack, the Russians increased the number of drone launch locations to five: drones were launched from Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. There were no launches from Crimea this time.
The Chief Diplomat of Ukraine, Andriy Sibiga, brought the original Budapest Memorandum to the NATO summit in Brussels. This document was supposed to guarantee Ukraine's security in exchange for renouncing nuclear weapons. Sibiga emphasized that the memorandum failed to stop Russian aggression and added that Ukraine urgently needs at least 20 new Western air defense systems to protect against the enemy. Otherwise, a blackout awaits the Ukrainians.
At the same time, the Netherlands has already delivered three launch systems for Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine to protect against Russian attacks. In the Netherlands, they hope that additional air defense systems will help Ukraine safeguard its infrastructure. Protection is especially crucial for Ukrainians in winter.
