On the night of February 3, the city of Akhtubinsk in the Astrakhan region of Russia came under drone attack. Local residents reported explosions and a fire in the area of the gas processing plant. This facility is one of the key energy assets of the Russian Federation.

Local news outlets reported on the attack, which was confirmed by the mayor of Akhtubinsk. He posted on social media about the threat posed by drones, urging residents to take only the essentials and seek shelter in windowless rooms. Meanwhile, it was reported that the "Carpet" plan was implemented at airports in Astrakhan, Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Saratov, and Ulyanovsk.

Shortly after, Russian channels reported that kamikaze drones targeted facilities of the fuel and energy complex (PEC) in the Astrakhan region. Specifically, the local gas processing plant was affected, leading to a fire. It was noted that operations at the facility were halted due to damage to three of its installations.

The head of the Central Operational Department at the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, confirmed that drones attacked the Astrakhan gas processing plant. This is one of Russia's critical energy facilities, responsible for processing gas condensate and producing gasoline, diesel fuel, and more.

The plant has an impact on Russia's military-industrial complex, as the fuel and energy sector serves as the primary source of funding for the defense sector.
