Hourly power outages in Ukraine will continue until the end of the day on December 25. These restrictions were implemented following a morning rocket-drone attack by the Russian Federation. Energy workers are already on-site to restore the damaged equipment as quickly as possible.

This was announced by Ukrenergo. The company emphasized that the need for energy conservation will remain throughout the day.

"Today (December 25 - ed.) hourly power outages will be in effect until the end of the day. You can check the schedules for enforced restrictions in your region on the website and the official pages of the regional energy companies on social media. Please do not turn on several high-power electrical appliances at the same time when power is restored according to the schedule," the statement reads.

Ukrenergo reminds that on December 25, there was already the thirteenth attack on the energy system of Ukraine since the beginning of 2024. Currently, emergency recovery operations have begun at all damaged facilities where the security situation allows.

Power Issues Following the Attack on December 25

On Wednesday, December 25, Ukrenergo introduced hourly blackout schedules. Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko stressed that the energy system of Ukraine was under attack from Russia.

Specifically, Russia struck DTEK's thermal power plants. As a result, the equipment has been severely damaged.

Before the attack, it was planned to celebrate Christmas without power outages. On December 24, Vladimir Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, stated that there were no forecasts for power outages on Christmas. He added that some emergency damages had been repaired the day before, on December 23, and there were currently no such issues.

However, Omelchenko emphasized that this was conditional on no significant strikes on the energy infrastructure by the enemy. The expert also noted that blackout schedules could return if the average daily temperature drops to -7°C.
