The military assistance from the United States of America has not been reduced. Moreover, the supplies have not stopped, so they continue to arrive. However, there are currently no discussions regarding new packages.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a conversation with journalists in Kyiv, as reported by Radio Liberty. This occurred after a meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
“As of today, we do not have a reduction in American support. It has not been halted; it continues, and I am grateful to the USA for that. Of course, we are not talking about new packages; it is too early for that,” the president noted.
He also responded to whether Ukraine would be able to fight if U.S. assistance were no longer available. According to him, a reduction in supplies would impact the country's defense capability.
“We would be weaker, and whether we can hold [the land] – I am not sure,” Zelensky added.
Previously, Zelensky stated that there are currently no signals indicating that the USA and Europe will cease military assistance to Ukraine. He mentioned that their support currently sustains the military by 60%.
At the same time, Reuters journalists reported that during the last year of Joe Biden's presidency, key arms supplies to Ukraine sharply declined due to internal disputes, concerns about potential escalation with Russia, and whether the American military had sufficient weapon stockpiles. The situation with supplies only improved after Donald Trump's victory in the November 2024 elections. However, the new American leader could freeze this assistance at any moment.
Information about the supply situation emerged from a journalistic investigation. It was noted that the most prolonged delays in weapon deliveries were observed during the months when Congress passed a bill for additional military assistance to Ukraine amounting to $60 billion. The chaotic tracking system for arms supplies also played a role, where the definition of when arms could be considered "delivered" varied.
