The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced a significant reinforcement of the 155th Brigade "Anna Kyivska," which has been embroiled in a major scandal. Syrskyi made the announcement following the monthly meeting with the commanders of drone units and electronic warfare.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces shared this information on social media. According to him, the meeting was designated to summarize the activities of the Armed Forces for December 2024.

"I paid special attention to enhancing the capabilities of the drone unit of the 155th mechanized brigade, as well as addressing problematic issues that need to be resolved," – he wrote, without providing further details, but noting that he had given all necessary instructions.

It is worth mentioning that prior to this, President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the situation in the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Anna Kyivska" during a meeting of the Supreme Commander’s Staff. He took it under his personal control. The President particularly focused on the mass desertion among the brigade's soldiers in France and the unauthorized departure from the unit (AWOL) in Ukraine during its formation.

Scandal in the 155th Brigade

The State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine has launched an investigation into suspicions of desertion and abuse of office within the 155th mechanized brigade named after Anna Kyivska, trained in France, confirmed "Interfax" in a statement on January 2.

The statement was made following media investigations that claimed soldiers of the unit, currently stationed near Pokrovsk, suffered losses and went AWOL due to poor command and organization.

The brigade is a flagship project, under which Kyiv's partners will assist in preparing new Ukrainian military formations and providing heavy equipment. The training of the 155th brigade, named after the princess of Kievan Rus of the 11th century and the wife of French King Henry I, was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron in June 2024.
