The administration of current U.S. President Joe Biden has not managed to spend nearly $4 billion from the funds approved by Congress for aid to Ukraine. This money can be directed to Kyiv by the administration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump. The Pentagon expects that aid to Kyiv will not be reduced.
This was reported by Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh. During a briefing, she was asked how much of the allocated funds for Ukraine in 2024 would remain with the administration of elected President Donald Trump.
"The next administration will have just under $4 billion at its disposal, which it can use for Ukraine," Singh is quoted by Suspilne.
The Pentagon has stated that the Biden administration, which is nearing its end, has committed to providing Kyiv with weapons worth $65.4 billion since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine. On January 9, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that the U.S. will allocate another military aid package worth $500 million to Ukraine. This package will include, among other things, air-to-ground munitions and equipment for the F-16 fighters received by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The department does not anticipate a reduction in aid to Kyiv after the election of President Donald Trump.
At the same time, since the beginning of the war, Congress has allocated approximately $175 billion to support Ukraine and its allies. A significant portion of this funding is directed towards long-term investments in U.S. defense production to replace military equipment sent to Ukraine. Since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, the U.S. and its allies have provided over $126 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
