In Toretsk, Donetsk region, the situation is deteriorating: the Russians have captured the highest point of the city — the "Central" mine. After seizing this dominant height, the enemy continues to bombard the remnants of the city still under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with heavy artillery. Intense fighting is now underway for another mine with the same name.
Military journalist Bohdan Myroshnykov reported on the situation in Toretsk. He noted that Toretsk has been completely obliterated by the Russians through artillery and KABs. The capture of the dominant heights has only worsened the situation, as the enemy can now indiscriminately destroy what remains of the city.
"The level of adjustment will significantly increase due to the control of the dominant height," the military journalist added.
According to Myroshnykov, battles for the "Toretsk" mine are beginning in the city. Additionally, the Russians are advancing towards the spoil banks at the city's exit.
"As a city, Toretsk no longer exists. The enemy has erased everything with KABs and artillery," he emphasized.
On January 10, the Joint Forces Operation "Khortytsia" reported fighting in the Kramatorsk and Toretsk directions. Fierce battles have been noted in Chasiv Yar, near Stupochky, Bila Hora, Predtechyn, and in Toretsk.
"Some of our positions have suffered damage due to assault actions and fire impact. Efforts to detect, localize, and eliminate enemy assault groups that have infiltrated our combat formations are ongoing," the report stated.
The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) also noted Russian advances in Toretsk in their report dated January 10. It was indicated that Russian troops have recently advanced through Murmansk and Korolenko streets in the northwest of Toretsk, as well as through Oleksandr Dovzhenko and Angarska streets in the north of Toretsk.
Russian milbloggers claimed that Russian forces advanced east from New York to Sukha Balka (both located south of Toretsk) and further along Berehova street in southern Petrivka (to the west of Toretsk). On January 9-10, Russian forces were advancing near Toretsk, west of Toretsk in the Shcherbynivka area, and south of Toretsk in the Sukha Balka area.
In Toretsk, the work of Ukrainian defenders is significantly complicated by civilians who have consciously refused to evacuate from the frontline city. The enemy loses personnel and equipment daily, continually launching "meat assaults," and employing deceptive tactics against the Armed Forces of Ukraine — Russians disguise themselves as civilians, changing military uniforms for regular clothing.
The enemy is destroying Toretsk with artillery, FPV drones, and aviation. Some neighborhoods of the city have already been erased from the face of the earth. This is how the Russians are attempting to "push" Ukrainian units out of the city.
