In 2025, Ukraine's budget will allocate 30 billion UAH for the production of military equipment and various types of armaments. Among other things, the Ukrainian defense industry (VPK) will manufacture tens of thousands of long-range drones and thousands of cruise missiles. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal shared details about Ukraine's plans for new weapons for the Armed Forces during the first government meeting on January 3.

Weapons for the Armed Forces — Plans for 2025

Shmyhal announced that Ukraine will spend over 2.23 trillion UAH on the defense sector in 2025. Of this amount, 739 billion UAH will be allocated for the procurement of equipment and armaments, while 30 billion UAH will go to the domestic defense industry. With this funding, the VPK will produce Ukrainian missiles and long-range drones. The official provided expected production volumes of weapons to be received by the Defense Forces in the upcoming year:

  • Long-range drones — 30,000 units (averaging 2,500 per month);
  • Cruise missiles and drone missiles — 3,000 units (250 per month).

"First and foremost, this is about the defense and security of our country. We have a record budget to support our army and strengthen the defense industry," emphasized the politician.

Additionally, it is expected that Denmark will allocate 1 billion USD in 2025 for the procurement of Ukrainian-made weapons, the head of government stated. This means that Ukraine will be purchasing domestic weapons from its own VPK. Plans are also in place to construct shelters modeled after Finland, with private companies and the state working together on this initiative, Shmyhal announced.

On January 3, The Telegraph reported that Ukraine plans to strike Russia in 2025 using its own long-range missiles. For these strikes, it is likely that the "Trembita" missile will be used, which costs about 10,000 USD (the cheapest among its counterparts) and can carry 18 kg of explosives over a distance of up to 150 km. At the same time, the publication mentioned a modification of this weapon: plans are underway to enhance it and increase its range to 650 km, enabling it to reach Moscow.
