The Ukrainian Air Forces managed to destroy 419 enemy aerial targets over the course of a week while protecting strategic sites and repelling attacks from Russian invaders. Most of these were drones. The statistics do not include aerial targets that were neutralized by electronic warfare systems.
This information was reported by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in their summary on January 5. It is noted that in addition to defending their own territory, Ukraine also carried out airstrikes against the occupiers, with the Air Forces executing 30 attacks against the enemy. It was also reported what was downed by the Ukrainian Air Forces over the week:
"The Air Forces continue to repel enemy airstrikes, protect strategic state facilities, critical infrastructure, troop groupings, and inflict fire damage on the enemy across various fronts," the report stated.
Earlier, on January 3, Russian military forces attacked Kyiv with "Shahed" strike drones. As a result of the wave-like drone attack, debris fell in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts. In the latter area, a residential building caught fire. Fortunately, there were no casualties this time. All emergency services were on-site.
Additionally, on January 3, the Russian Federation's army carried out an airstrike on Sumy. The enemy targeted the private sector. There are casualties from the attack, and they are receiving all necessary assistance. Preliminary reports indicate no fatalities. Details of the Russian strike are being investigated.
