The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced preparations for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the process has already commenced.

Donald Trump made this statement before a meeting with Republican governors at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

"President Putin wants to meet. He has even stated this publicly, and we need to put an end to this war," Donald Trump added.

The Republican did not specify when the meeting would take place, but he reiterated that the conflict should be resolved "in the near future." Earlier this week, Donald Trump promised to end the war within the first six months of his presidency. During his campaign, he had claimed he could resolve it "in 24 hours."

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed journalists that there are currently no specific plans for a meeting between the presidents, although Moscow welcomes the American side's desire to engage in dialogue.

"We see that Mr. Trump also declares his readiness to address issues through dialogue. We welcome this. We proceed from mutual readiness for a meeting. Apparently, after Mr. Trump enters the Oval Office, there will be some movement," Dmitry Peskov said.

"If, after taking office, there remains a political will to resume high-level contacts, then, of course, President Putin will only welcome that," he added.

Donald Trump's inauguration is scheduled for January 20.
