The former head of the Gas Transmission System Operator, Sergey Makogon, managed to leave the country by arranging a business trip and did not return to Ukraine. This was reported by political scientist and serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Kirill Sazonov, citing a court decision, according to UPIAN.
"In other words, a government official with access to high-level state secrets went on a 'business trip' and did not come back. He settled in Canada and moved his family there. Now he is sitting in Vancouver, funded by our money, writing Facebook posts about the 'critical situation in Ukrainian energy,'” noted the political scientist.
Furthermore, according to the expert, Sergey Makogon awarded himself a 125% bonus just a few months before arranging his 'business trip' to Canada. This occurred during the height of the war in the tumultuous year of 2022.
"With his astronomical salary, that amounts to 10.5 million UAH. Fortunately, some sensible accountants were reluctant to process the payment, and eventually, Makogon had to go to court for that bonus while being in Canada," added Sazonov.
This court case revealed details about Makogon's departure from the country, the political scientist points out.
"It seems to me that we are definitely not fighting for officials to award themselves bonuses of 10 million UAH, flee the country under the guise of 'business trips,' and then lecture us on how to live while sitting in Canada," Sazonov concluded.
