The Minister of Internal Affairs, Igor Klymenko, has appointed Hero of Ukraine Dmitry Finashin as an advisor on veteran policy issues. He will focus on improving the rehabilitation system, social support, and employment for combat participants within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the minister reported.
According to Klymenko, Dmitry is a young representative of the warrior community who has a clear understanding of the needs of military personnel and veterans.
"Finn" has served on the front lines from private to officer, sustained a severe injury during combat, and risked his own life to save a comrade. He later returned to duty," noted the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Finashin will be engaged in the following areas:
Dmitry Finashin was born in the city of Kazatin, reports "Suspilne Vinnytsia". He began his service in the National Guard in 2015 as a sniper and completed tasks in the ATO and JFO zones starting in 2017. He served as a sniper in the special forces company of the Kulchytsky Battalion.
Just before the full-scale war, in February 2022, Finashin arrived for his first rotation as a sniper in Luhansk region. His unit was tasked with operations near Stanytsia Luhanska.
On May 23, 2022, during a combat mission near Yakovlivka in Luhansk region, Dmitry's group was attacked by Russian occupiers who had set up an ambush in advance. Dmitry sustained multiple serious injuries: he lost his index finger due to a bullet that also shattered the bone and artery in his left arm, while another bullet penetrated his helmet. Despite this, he managed to reach Ukrainian positions on his own within two days.
On October 6, 2022, Finashin was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and received the "Golden Star" order for personal bravery and heroism.
On January 3, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelensky presented a certificate for an apartment to Senior Sergeant of the National Guard Dmitry Finashin.
