A Kyiv resident stole clothing worth 4,841 hryvnias from an Epicenter store, wearing it to evade detection. The court has made its ruling on the case.

A woman at Epicenter took clothing from the shelves totaling 4,841 hryvnias. She wore some of the items and placed others in her bag to carry them out of the hypermarket. This was reported in the ruling of the Obolon District Court of Kyiv, published on April 17, 2024.

A woman at Epicenter took clothes from the shelves with a total value of 4,841 hryvnias. She wore some of the items and placed others into her bag to take out of the hypermarket. This was stated in the verdict of the Obolon District Court of Kyiv, published on April 17, 2024.

On November 16, 2023, the woman in the "Epicenter" store took two pairs of socks, a sweater, two tank tops, and tights, totaling 4,841 hryvnias. She wore part of the merchandise and hid the rest in her bag, which she had at the time. She attempted to leave the premises but was stopped by store employees.

During the court session, the woman fully admitted her guilt. She explained that on November 16, 2023, she attempted to steal items from the "Epicenter" store by taking goods from the shelves, as stated in the charges, without any intention to pay for them, bypassing the cash register and heading towards the store exit, where she was halted by a store employee to whom she voluntarily returned the stolen items. The citizen sincerely repented and requested not to be severely punished.

What punishment did the court choose?

The court found the woman guilty of committing a crime under part 2 of Article 15 and part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced her to 5 years of imprisonment. Based on Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, she was released from serving her sentence on probation for a period of 2 years. According to paragraphs 1, 2 of part 1 and paragraph 2 of part 3 of Article 76 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, she was assigned the following obligations: to periodically appear for registration with the authorized probation authority; to inform the authorized probation authority of any changes in her place of residence or work; and not to leave Ukraine without the approval of the authorized probation authority.
