Approximately 65-70% of the personnel of the National Guard of Ukraine are currently engaged in tasks in combat zones. This figure may vary depending on the situation—sometimes more, sometimes less. It depends on whether the units require recovery.
This was shared by the Commander of the National Guard, Oleksandr Pivnenko, in an interview with Radio Khartia. He also indicated the tasks being performed by the National Guardsmen at the front.
"65-70% (are on the line of confrontation — ed). Well, it depends on the situation, which can sometimes require more and sometimes less; recovery is also needed for units that have lost combat capability. This is very important, and we need to keep this in mind. Recovery rotation is the key to successfully completing tasks, in addition to the preparedness of the personnel. Rotation should involve recovery, and there should be replenishment of combat capability with equipment and personnel," Pivnenko explained.
The Commander of the National Guard also added that operational brigades of the National Guard, in terms of their functions and combat capability, do not differ significantly from the mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Besides participating in combat operations, they also perform other critical tasks, such as escorting, guarding nuclear power plants, securing critical infrastructure, and maintaining public order.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, reported that approximately 10% of the personnel of the National Police of Ukraine are involved in combat tasks at the front. Additionally, another 25% of police officers, which is about a quarter of the total force, are serving in regions where active hostilities are ongoing, particularly in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Sumy regions.
According to Klymenko, the National Police's shooting units are actively engaged in tasks benefiting the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There are also units that work jointly with border guards to carry out tasks along the border with the Republic of Belarus.
Currently, about 40-45% of the personnel of the National Police are involved in performing functions that are not typical for the police, such as service in hot spots, mine clearance, and executing other tasks in the interests of the Defense Forces. Some law enforcement officers working in rear areas are also periodically involved in rotational tasks at the front.
