The court has completed the hearing of the case regarding an attack on a woman that took place a year and a half ago, in August 2023. A man approached a minor who was exercising at the playground and began demanding a symbolic amount of money and a bottle of water. After she refused, he assaulted her and went on with his business. The details of the proceedings and the verdict have been published in the Judicial Decisions Registry.
The Registry contains the protocol of the court session for case No. 552/16/24. The session took place on January 3, 2024, at the Kyiv District Court in Poltava. The defendant is a native of the village of Chinadiyevo in the Mukachevo district of the Transcarpathian region. The man was suspected of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code — robbery in particularly large amounts, committed during martial law. The court found the defendant guilty and imposed the minimum penalty possible under this article — eight years in prison, as stated in the verdict.
The court materials reveal the sequence of events, as well as how a case that began with a demand for 10 hryvnias ended with an eight-year sentence for robbery. It is noted that the attack on the woman occurred on August 30, 2023, around 3 PM. The minor was engaged in sports at a playground in Poltava when an unknown man approached her and began demanding money (10 hryvnias for transportation) and a bottle of water. When the defendant heard her refusal, he struck the girl 8-9 times. Subsequently, medical professionals diagnosed her with a concussion, closed head injury, and "hyperpigmentation of the skin on the lower lip."
According to the attacker, he wanted very little: to know where the train station was, 10 hryvnias for a ticket, and to drink. He was given water, shown where the station was, and then was "rudely" insulted. The man became angry and admitted to hitting the girl before fleeing. Later, it is said that the victim's father caught up with him, beat him, and brought him to the police, as stated in the testimony.
The victim described the incident differently. She reported that after refusing to give 10 hryvnias, the stranger grabbed her, began pulling her, and punched her. To escape, she promised to hand over her phone and jewelry. At one point, the attacker loosened his grip, and she ran away and hid in a nearby store. In court, the victim's father, witnesses, and expert identification data were heard. Ultimately, the defendant was found guilty and sentenced to eight years in prison with the confiscation of part of his property.
We remind you that the publication "Facts" reported on a new fraud scheme: criminals demand money for a relative who allegedly has been "detained and taken to the TCC."
