The National Bank of Ukraine has raised the dollar exchange rate to a new historical high—above 42 hryvnias—for the first time. This is evidenced by data released on the regulator's website.
This dollar rate has been recorded for the first time. In exchange offices, the dollar price has increased to 42.40 UAH. On the interbank market, the American currency rose by 11 kopecks—to 42.06-42.09 UAH/dollar (buy-sell).
The official exchange rate as of December 31 is set at 42.0390 UAH per dollar (+0.0987 UAH). The previous high was recorded on December 24—41.9910 UAH/dollar.
Since the beginning of 2024, the dollar rate has increased by 4 hryvnias (10.7%) from 37.98 UAH/dollar on December 31, 2023.
There is also a noticeable increase in the euro rate. On December 31, it stands at 43.9266 UAH (+0.1787 UAH).

Meanwhile, Taras Lysovoy, head of the treasury department at Globus Bank, commented to UNIAN that the hryvnia may fall to 46-47 UAH per dollar in 2025.
It is worth noting that in 2024, due to the easing of currency restrictions, Ukrainian businesses gained the opportunity to service part of the transactions for coupon payments on eurobonds.
