In Kyiv region, four young members of a Russian espionage network were plotting a massive attack against military personnel. Kremlin accomplices were preparing a powerful explosion at the entrance of a building housing one of the Defense Forces units. However, their sinister plans were thwarted — the SBU apprehended the perpetrators.
As reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, the explosives were found in a tactical backpack intended to be delivered by a minor disguised in military uniform. Moreover, the agent who was to be targeted was unaware of the lethal fate awaiting him.
The SBU emphasized that all four individuals acted independently but had a common Russian handler. Among those detained:
It is known that the "initial stash" was set up by two residents of Vinnytsia region. Following a video instruction from a representative of the Russian security services, they created an explosive device and concealed it. Now, they all face life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
The Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian military intelligence agent who was supposed to organize a mass derailment of trains belonging to Ukrzaliznytsia. The spy was "commissioned" to carry out a series of explosions on the railway tracks, which were used to transport weapons and equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The names of the handlers of the detained individual are also known — one of them is a former Ukrainian law enforcement officer. For the sabotage, the man was to receive $40,000, but he now faces life imprisonment if his guilt is proven in court.
