On the evening of January 9, videos of a heat network rupture in Kyiv near the Central Railway Station at the intersection of Zhylianska and Symon Petliura streets began to circulate on social media. The footage shows hot water gushing onto the road, flooding parked cars. The KP "Kyivteploenergo" reported that due to the emergency situation, the hostel's premises and the administrative building were damaged. A correspondent from the "Kyiv24" channel clarified that the facade of an old building near the rupture site had collapsed.

The correspondent stated that part of the wall of the old house fell. He was positioned near the epicenter of the rupture, where a hole had formed. The upper arch of the entrance to the courtyard could not withstand the pressure. The arch was left hanging on metal beams. An emergency task force was urgently convened to address the situation.

"Kyivteploenergo" specified that the rupture occurred around 16:40, and at 17:14 they reported its localization and the commencement of repair work. The accident took place on a main pipeline with a diameter of 450 mm.

According to the press service, there were no guests in the hostel at the time of the wall collapse.

"Currently, specialists are conducting an assessment and determining the extent of the damage," the statement noted.

Additionally, in a comment to journalists, the owner of one of the nearby cafes shared that he had called emergency services. Due to the hot water, it was impossible to access the electrical panel to cut off power to the premises.

"The question arises of how to eliminate this, how to remove the water, how to save the property," the man said.

Around 21:00, "Kyivteploenergo" reported that due to the rupture in the main pipeline, over 230 houses in the capital were left without heating.

"Within a day, energy workers will restore service to all buildings, except for six, which will be heated using mobile boiler units until full restoration of heat supply is achieved," the press service stated.

At 19:12, the patrol police in Kyiv announced the closure of traffic on Symon Petliura Street from Saksahanskoho to Zhylianska due to the rupture of the heat network pipes.

Recall that on January 8, media reported that large-scale wildfires in Southern California reached the celebrity district in Los Angeles.
