In Ukraine, there are legal grounds for the termination of pension payments in certain cases. The Pension Fund explained who might face this situation and how to reclaim funds in such instances.

Reasons for Pension Payment Termination

Article 49 of the law "On Mandatory State Pension Insurance" states that pension payments may be halted by the decision of territorial bodies of the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) or a court.

The following reasons may apply:

  • payments were awarded based on documents containing false information;
  • the pensioner resides abroad (if there is no international agreement recognized as mandatory by the Verkhovna Rada);
  • the pensioner submitted a request to terminate payments due to temporary residence abroad;
  • the pensioner has died, been declared missing, or legally declared deceased;
  • the pensioner was granted the status of a missing person under special circumstances;
  • payments have not been received for six months;
  • the pensioner did not undergo physical identification;
  • other reasons (for example, the end of the educational period for a child receiving survivor benefits, employment of an individual receiving a retirement pension, etc.).

How to Reclaim Pension Payments

To resume payments, the pensioner must:

  1. bring an identification document;
  2. visit any service center of the PFU in person;
  3. submit the appropriate application.

After clarifying the circumstances that led to the termination of the pension payment, and if those reasons are no longer relevant, the payments will be reinstated within 10 days.

As a reminder, the mayor of Kherson, Roman Mrochko, shared information about assistance ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 hryvnias available to Ukrainians. This aid can be accessed through the "Social Protection" program.
