On New Year's Eve, Russian forces once again attacked Ukraine with Shahed drones. A total of 111 strike drones were launched by the enemy. Air defense systems destroyed 63 of them. 46 drones turned out to be decoys, and two UAVs flew towards Russia and Belarus.
This information was reported by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is noted that from 8:30 PM on December 31 until the night of January 1, the enemy launched 111 Shaheds and drones of other types. The launch areas included Bryansk, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Crimea.
The air assault was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine. As of 9:30 AM, the confirmed downing of 63 Shaheds occurred in Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zaporizhia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, and Mykolaiv regions.
"Due to the active counteraction by the Defense Forces, 46 enemy decoy drones were lost in location (without negative consequences), while two flew to Russia and Belarus," the report states.
On January 1, Russian strike drones attacked, among other places, Kyiv. As a result, a six-story residential building in the Pechersk district was partially destroyed from the 6th to the 4th floor, resulting in a fire. A fire also broke out on the roof of a non-residential building covering an area of 80 square meters. Windows and doors were shattered at one of the schools.
In the Sviatoshyn district, debris fell onto a non-residential area, damaging vehicles and garages. A local fire occurred, and the tram tracks were partially damaged.
In total, four people were injured in the capital, with two of them hospitalized.
