Russia has developed a medium-range ballistic missile called "Oreshnik", based on the intercontinental ballistic missile model RS-26 "Rubezh". This was announced by Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh, as reported by CNN.
She described the Russian "Oreshnik" as an "experimental medium-range ballistic missile."
"It (the missile) is based on the Russian intercontinental ballistic missile model RS-26 'Rubezh'," Singh stated.
On November 21, Russian occupiers struck Dnipro with the intercontinental ballistic missile "Oreshnik". This marked the first time such an event occurred since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. Notably, the world learned about the missile's name only after President Vladimir Putin's address, in which he informed the public.
According to the Air Forces, the Russian Armed Forces targeted enterprises and critical infrastructure in Dnipro, notably affecting a rehabilitation center for individuals with disabilities. The missile itself was launched from the Astrakhan region.
Nuclear expert Fabian Hoffmann stated that the Russian strike with the "Oreshnik" on Dnipro was a nuclear warning.
"Regardless of the missile's exact range, the strike was a message of nuclear threat," Hoffmann said.
By the evening of November 21, the White House reported that Ukraine was aware of preparations for this strike, as were other Western allies of Kyiv.
Simultaneously, the Kremlin's press service stated that they had informed the U.S. about the strike in automatic mode half an hour before it occurred, but it was not a planned notification.
It is worth noting that Ukrainians reacted with memes to Putin's statement regarding the "Oreshnik" missile.
