Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using 72 drones, which were intercepted across 11 regions.

During the night, Russian forces once again attacked Ukraine with Shahed kamikaze drones and various types of decoy drones. In total, the Russians launched 72 aerial threats. 33 of them were intercepted, while another 34 failed to reach their targets due to being lost in location, and one returned to Russia.

The Air Force reported that after 8:30 PM on January 9, the enemies launched 72 Shahed UAVs and decoy drones of various types towards Ukraine. The attack originated from the following directions: Millerovo, Orel, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. The assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As of 9 AM, 33 strike drones had been shot down. The air defense operated in 11 regions almost across the entire country: Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, and Kherson regions.

Five hits by UAVs on enterprises and utility buildings were recorded. In the frontline area in northern Chernihiv region, one civilian was injured. In Kyiv, a struck UAV fell on a high-rise building, damaging the structure and two dozen vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties.

34 enemy decoy drones were lost in location, with no negative consequences. One flew towards the Russian Federation.

Attack on Russian Regions

During the night, drones also targeted Russian regions. Explosions were reported in Rostov, Voronezh, Bryansk, and Leningrad regions, as well as in Krasnodar Krai. The Russians claim to have shot down 16 drones over Rostov. Locals report that the "Plastificator" plant is on fire. In total, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the downing of 40 UAVs.
