Russia launched 72 drones and decoy drones at Ukraine: how many were intercepted by air defense systems?

On the night and morning of January 2, the Russian army terrorized Ukraine with 72 "Shaheds" and drones of other types, including drone imitators. The enemy launched UAVs from four different cities in the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian air defense operated in 11 regions, destroying the majority of the drones, although some were lost in specific locations. A hunt is still ongoing for one of the enemy's "Shaheds."

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on the performance of the air defense. The military noted that they managed to hunt down 47 drones, while 24 drone imitators were lost in specific locations, and one UAV is still circling over Ukraine.

To repel the airstrike from the Russian Federation, aviation, anti-aircraft troops, and electronic warfare units were involved. The defenders of the sky shot down enemy drones over 11 regions: Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv.

Another 24 drone imitators were lost in specific locations, and one enemy drone is still flying. The enemy launched UAVs from Kursk, Oryol, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

Attacks of Shaheds

On New Year's Eve, the Russians attacked Ukraine with 111 drones. At that time, the air defense shot down 63 enemy drones, of which 46 turned out to be imitators.

On the first day of the New Year, the enemy attacked Kyiv with "Shaheds". Debris from the drones fell in the Pechersk and Svyatoshyn districts. Notably, the building of the National Bank was damaged. It is known that as a result of the attack by the Russian Federation, two people lost their lives.
