Russia launched 93 "Shahed" drones and decoys against Ukraine, with air defense systems active in nine regions.

On the night of January 3, 2025, Russian military forces launched 93 strike drones of the "Shahed" type at Ukraine. The enemy also attacked with various types of imitation drones launched from Bryansk, Millerovo, and Orel. The drone attack resulted in destruction and damage across three regions.

Regarding how the Ukrainian air defense performed, the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. It was noted that the aerial assault was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As of 09:00, the downing of 60 strike drones of the "Shahed" type and other types of drones has been confirmed across nine regions: Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk.

Due to the active resistance of the Defense Forces, 26 enemy imitation drones were lost in specific locations. There were no negative consequences. However, one drone remains airborne.

As a result of the Russian attack, several hits by strike drones were recorded on private enterprises and apartment buildings in Donetsk and Chernihiv regions. The downed "Shaheds" also caused damage in Kyiv region: private houses and vehicles were damaged in several districts. There is one deceased and several injured.

Shahed Attack on January 3

On the night of Friday, January 3, the Russian military attacked Kyiv with "Shahed" strike drones. As a result of the wave-like drone assault, debris fell in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts. In the latter, a residential building caught fire. Fortunately, this time there were no casualties. All emergency services were on site.

Additionally, on January 3, the Russian army carried out an airstrike on Sumy. The enemy targeted the private sector. As a result of the attack, there are injuries – all necessary assistance is being provided to them. Preliminary reports indicate no fatalities. Details of the Russian strike are being clarified.
