The Russian Federation's army fully captured Kurakhove in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk on January 4, where earlier the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost part of their positions. The enemy managed to establish a foothold near the thermal power station and controls all residential areas. Fierce battles are ongoing only in the industrial zone. It is unclear how long the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to hold out there.
Military journalist Bohdan Myroshnykov reported that the Russians have taken Kurakhove. He added that the occupiers have completely seized the city. They control the residential areas and have entrenched themselves in the private sector near the Kurakhivska Thermal Power Station.
"The enemy has completely captured (Kurakhove - ed.) and has established itself in the private sector near the thermal power station," Myroshnykov reported on Telegram.
According to him, fighting is only taking place in the industrial zone, and it is unknown how long the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to maintain it, as there is a risk of encirclement. It is possible that Ukrainian defenders will be forced to retreat to the triangle of Kostiantynopil-Ulakly-Andriivka.
On January 2, analysts from the DeepState project reported on the advance of the Russian Federation in Kurakhove and its outskirts. According to the updated map, the Russians have made significant advances near Kurakhove.
At the end of December, the Russians were actively transferring equipment to the Kurakhove direction. Partisans ATEH recorded the movement of reserves in the form of a large column of heavy equipment heading towards Rostov-on-Don. The column included multipurpose lightly armored transporters, T-72 tanks, and infantry fighting vehicles based on tracks.
