On the night of November 22, the occupiers targeted Sumy with strike drones of the "Shahed" type. Several powerful explosions were heard within the city. Later, reports emerged of "hits." There are casualties.
The consequences of the enemy attack were reported on Telegram by acting mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar. He noted that two hits were recorded in different areas of the city. Currently, all emergency services are responding to these incidents.
"Several powerful explosions were heard in the city of Sumy. One person has died at the site of one of the explosions. Emergency services and ambulances are working on-site," said Kobzar.
He later added that another deceased person was found at the site of the second "hit." Rescuers, medical personnel, and police inspectors are working there. An emergency headquarters will be established, and the location will be announced later.
The mayor urged residents to stay in shelters until the air raid alert is lifted, as enemy drones are still attacking Sumy. Explosions can be heard throughout the city.
"There is a threat of a repeated Shahed strike. Air defense is active. Dear residents, please move away from the windows," emphasized Kobzar.
Sumy and the surrounding area are being attacked daily by enemy drones. For instance, on October 22, the Russians targeted Sumy with kamikaze drones, resulting in several powerful explosions throughout the city. One of the drones hit a residential building. There are reports of several fatalities and injuries.
On November 17, as a result of a drone attack on the city, eight people were killed, including two children. Several dozen residents were injured, and over 400 were evacuated from the attack site. It is noted that a total of ten apartment buildings and parked cars nearby were damaged due to the Russian strike.
As a result of the strike on Hlukhiv in the Sumy region, which the Russians carried out late on the evening of November 18, six people were killed, including one child. There are also injuries. A Shahed drone struck a five-story residential building in one of the city's districts.
According to Zelensky, since the beginning of 2024, Russia has used at least 6130 Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones against Ukraine. The President of Ukraine noted that Ukrainian forces are intercepting a significant portion of the enemy's kamikaze drones.
