The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine have successfully extradited a suspect in a corruption case to Ukraine. The individual in question is the head of a company that unlawfully won a tender announced by "Ukrzaliznytsia." She offered power transformers at an inflated price.
This information was reported by the SAP press service. The investigation materials indicate that from June to December 2022, one of the individuals, acting through controlled officials of UZ, ensured the victory of the company led by the suspect. The winning company was controlled by a Belarusian citizen linked to the Russian regime.
"The supplies were made at an inflated cost; they were procured through a shell company from the manufacturer, which was partially owned by entities from the Russian Federation, and then resold to UZ at twice the price," the statement said.
As a result, the state incurred losses of nearly 95 million UAH, and the suspect managed to flee abroad. Her extradition was made possible through cooperation with the relevant authorities in Bulgaria and Poland.
"The investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court granted the request of the NABU detective, approved by the SAP prosecutor, and applied a preventive measure in the form of detention with an alternative bail of 9.9 million UAH," SAP added.
In October, it marked 10 years since the signing of the decree to establish the agency. During this time, detectives have held 1500 individuals accountable, including 200 officials. Additionally, thanks to NABU, the state has recovered over 9 billion UAH in damages. In just September 2024, NABU and SAP opened 51 criminal proceedings and reported suspicions against 15 individuals.
For the first time, NABU and SAP reported suspicions on December 17, 2015. The suspect was an intermediary in the transfer of a $4,000 bribe to one of the judges of the Severodonetsk city court. He promised to release the individual from serving the unserved part of the sentence and to lift the seizure of their vehicle.
In the first half of 2024, NABU and SAP conducted active work in the fight against corruption. In total, 323 new investigations were initiated, within which 166 individuals were granted suspect status, and 131 individuals were charged. Of these, 36 corrupt officials were punished.
Previously, Informator reported that the Verkhovna Rada on October 29 adopted bill No. 12039 on plea agreements in corruption cases. The document allows individuals to expose their accomplices, recover damages, pay a large fine, and receive a shorter prison sentence than required by the Criminal Code. This law was supported by both SAP and NABU.
