The special representative of the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump in Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, has postponed his trip to Kyiv and other European capitals initially scheduled for early January. The visits will now take place after Donald Trump's inauguration, which is set for January 20. The reason for this decision remains unclear.

Reuters reports this, citing sources. The publication notes that retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, who is expected to be Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia, had originally planned to visit Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian leaders in early January. His team was also preparing meetings with officials in other European capitals, including Rome and Paris.

However, the trip, which was meant to be the first visit of the new administration officials to Kyiv following the elections on November 5, has been canceled. Kellogg is expected to arrive in Ukraine after Trump takes office, although the exact date of the visit is yet to be determined.

The reasons behind Kellogg's postponement remain unclear. Reuters notes that neither Kellogg nor the representative of the Ukrainian embassy in Washington responded to requests for comment.

"Trump has repeatedly stated during his campaign that he could resolve the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office, but he has not made significant progress in this regard. Nevertheless, the attempt to swiftly de-escalate the conflict remains a key priority for his new administration," the publication states.

What is known about Keith Kellogg and his peace plan

It should be noted that Donald Trump appointed 80-year-old retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg as his assistant and special envoy for Ukraine and Russia. According to CNN, Kellogg proposed a plan to end the war that involves the diplomatic return of occupied territories and a temporary halt to Ukraine's NATO integration process.

This plan also includes a partial easing of sanctions against Russia in exchange for a ceasefire, freezing the front lines, and establishing a demilitarized zone in Ukraine. If a peace agreement is signed, all sanctions against the Russian Federation are to be lifted. Funding for Ukraine’s reconstruction is proposed to be sourced through customs duties on the export of Russian energy resources.
