In Ukraine, electricity consumption has decreased due to the warming weather. Emergency recovery works are ongoing at energy facilities, and scheduled power outages are not taking place. This was reported by the press service of Ukrenergo.
As of the morning of January 8, electricity consumption remains at the same level as the previous day - Tuesday. On January 7, a daily consumption peak was recorded in the evening. It was 7.4% lower than the peak of the previous working day - Monday, January 6. This is attributed to a significant increase in air temperature across most regions of Ukraine.
"The energy system continues to recover after thirteen massive missile and drone attacks by the Russians over the past year. Emergency recovery operations at energy facilities are ongoing. Energy workers are doing everything possible to restore damaged equipment and replace what has been destroyed by the enemy as quickly as possible," emphasized Ukrenergo.
The situation in the energy system may change. Keep an eye on updates on the websites and official social media pages of your distribution system operator (oblenergo).
The year 2024 has been the most challenging for the Ukrainian energy system, as it has faced constant enemy attacks on energy infrastructure facilities. This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Halushchenko, in an interview with the TV channel "We are Ukraine."
“Energy workers are working around the clock. The fact that the energy system holds together, remains intact, stable, and provides both electricity and heat to consumers is a tremendous achievement of every single energy worker who is doing this job with their own hands,” highlighted Halushchenko.
He noted that attacks by the Russian Federation on energy infrastructure began in October 2022–2023. In 2024, the enemy launched massive attacks much earlier — already in March, and they continued throughout the year.
“The destruction was significant, much greater compared to previous years. The nature of the attacks has changed, the complexity of the strikes, and the weapons used. Therefore, this is indeed the most challenging year for the energy system,” emphasized Halushchenko.
The minister stressed that the enemy has altered their attack tactics, now deploying drones every night, and during massive assaults, all types of missiles are added to the drones. Throughout 2024, Russia has conducted 13 massive attacks on the energy sector. Due to the intensity of Russian shelling, the repair campaign at energy facilities has become the largest in all the years. Repair and recovery works involve, among other things, equipment provided by international partners or purchased with donor funds.
