The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, is already working on options to end the war in Ukraine. It is expected that all proposals will be relatively swift; however, the exact outcome of military actions remains uncertain. Trump’s future national security advisor, Mike Waltz, is considering various suggestions, ranging from "freezing" the war during negotiations and ideas from Keith Kellogg, to establishing autonomous regions in Ukraine.
According to CNN, the future administration of the U.S. presidential election winner Donald Trump is already working on options to halt the war in Ukraine. Journalists note that the proposals are still being developed, but it is likely that Trump will be urged to quickly cease military actions in Ukraine, which may imply a "freezing" of the conflict during negotiations. The publication also reports that Trump will probably be pressed for a significant increase in NATO spending to support Kyiv.
Kellogg's Idea. Journalists assert that Waltz is reviewing Keith Kellogg's ideas for ending the war. According to them, Ukraine will continue to receive military assistance from the U.S. if it agrees to negotiations but will temporarily refrain from joining NATO.
Grenell's Idea. Another position is the proposal from Trump’s former ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell. According to this idea, a number of "autonomous regions" could be established in Ukraine. However, details of this proposal have not been disclosed.
NATO membership in exchange for territories. Another idea is to allow the occupiers to take the captured territories of Ukraine. In exchange, Ukraine would join NATO. However, journalists point out that Trump has a limited number of supporters for Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.
CNN also reminded that Waltz had a discussion about Ukraine with Joe Biden’s national security advisor, Jake Sullivan.
Journalists emphasize that it is too early to determine which specific idea Trump will support. At the same time, it could be unexpected and contradict previous statements from the newly elected U.S. president.
Donald Trump has appointed Keith Kellogg as the Special Representative for Ukraine. He will be the one promoting Donald Trump's peace initiatives.
Keith Kellogg is considered the author of the maxim that Ukraine will be deprived of American assistance if it refuses negotiations with Russia. However, if Russia declines negotiations, U.S. aid will be significantly increased. This is how the idea of "peace through strength" will be implemented.
