Украина будет использовать противопехотные мины от США только на своей территории, сообщил Пентагон.

The United States has officially authorized the transfer of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine, including those that are unguided. Kyiv will use them solely within its territory and outside populated areas to protect civilians. There is also confirmation that the mines were included in the latest aid package.

This was stated by Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh. She emphasized that Ukraine will utilize these mines exclusively on its territory, primarily outside populated areas, to avoid threats to civilians.

"This will help protect civilians and assist in deterring Russian infantry, which has become a key enemy tactic," Singh noted.

The transfer of mines was made possible by the latest military aid package approved by the Joe Biden administration. Sabrina Singh also explained that changes on the battlefield necessitate new approaches to supporting Ukraine.

"Russia is increasingly relying on infantry instead of mechanized forces, so we are confident that the transferred mines will significantly aid Ukraine in its defense. We believe this weapon will be used wisely and responsibly," she added.

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, during a visit to Laos, confirmed that this decision was made due to the evolution of combat operations. According to him, anti-personnel mines could be an effective response to the changing conditions of the war.

Despite this, the decision has faced criticism from human rights organizations, which remind of the long-term risks associated with using this type of weapon. They warn that mines pose a serious threat not only to military personnel but also to civilians even years after the conflict has ended.

U.S. Aid Package of $275 Million

The Pentagon is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine, worth at least $275 million. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive, among other things, air defense systems, HIMARS artillery rocket systems, and Javelin anti-tank munitions.

Additionally, Informator reported that the administration of current U.S. President Joe Biden has decided to expedite the transfer of the remaining allocated security assistance to Ukraine. This concerns $6 billion earmarked for weapon procurement. This is due to the fact that after the inauguration, Donald Trump may block arms supplies.
