The fire at the "Crystal" oil depot of Rosreserve in the Russian city of Engels, which was struck by Ukrainian drones, had still not been extinguished as of the evening of January 8. An emergency state has been declared in the city. Russian media reports indicate that the area of the fire has expanded and new tanks have exploded. It is also known that at least two firefighters have died.
According to Russian media, the "Crystal" oil depot supplied fuel to the notorious "Engels 2" airfield, from which Putin's strategic aviation launches missile strikes on Ukraine. The attack occurred around 8:00 AM on January 8.
Since then, the area of the fire has only increased, with new explosions of fuel tanks occurring. At least two employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have died at the site. This was reported by the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin.
"Due to the increased area of the fire at the industrial facility that was attacked by drones, an emergency situation will be declared in Engels. Unfortunately, as a result of the firefighting efforts, there are two fatalities – employees of the fire service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Additionally, one specialist has been hospitalized," Busargin reported on social media.

Earlier, according to local Telegram channels, residents heard about 30 explosions: air defense was engaging with the drones. Authorities reported that all targets were hit.
Shortly thereafter, reports of the fire at the oil depot began to come in. As of the evening of January 8, the fire had not been extinguished. During the emergency state, residents are prohibited from approaching the site of the fire.
The local authorities also released the names of the deceased firefighters: Gennady Afanasyev and Zhaslan Teleupov. Both worked for the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Saratov region.
As reported by Informator, Ukrainian drones also attacked Saratov on January 8. This city and Engels are located opposite each other on the right and left banks of the Volga.
Currently, local communities are discussing possible new attacks by Ukrainian drones on Engels. They are also outraged that teenagers in Saratov are launching fireworks during the fire. This is indeed shocking, as the site of the fire is clearly visible from Saratov.
On the night of January 4, drones may have attacked the strategic plant of the Russian defense industry "Avangard" in the Smolensk region of Russia. There, engines for Russian missiles are manufactured, among other things.
On the night of December 28, three Russian regions were simultaneously attacked by drones. Drone attacks were recorded in the Rostov, Belgorod, and Voronezh regions. In the latter, the railway was damaged as a result of the strikes, forcing the occupiers to suspend train services.
