In Kyiv, at the children's hospital Okhmatdyt, surgeons performed an operation on a girl who had internal female organs and external male ones. This was reported by the medical institution.

The 12-year-old girl was born with adrenal-gential syndrome, a rare condition characterized by the excessive secretion of male sex hormones by the adrenal cortex. As a result, her external genitalia developed in a male form instead of female.

"The child has internal reproductive organs that are developed as female. She has a uterus, vagina, and ovaries, but there is one 'but' — the vagina opens very close to the bladder. She has the highest degree of this condition, where the openings of the reproductive and urinary systems are merged and exit through the urethra. Therefore, the external genitalia appear entirely like a typical male penis," explains Maksym Ponomarenko, head of the urology department at the NDSB "Okhmatdyt."

The operation lasted over 6 hours. The medical team corrected the condition and formed female organs for the girl. The young patient has already been discharged from the hospital.

"This operation had not only medical implications. It triggered and wounded the girl. She often felt different from others and faced insults from her peers. Therefore, such intervention was essential for her and became a significant step towards self-acceptance and embracing her body," adds Alina Puzko, a pediatric urologist at Okhmatdyt.

We remind you that in Kyiv, for the first time in the world, a heart operation was performed on a child within the first minutes of life. A life-threatening heart defect was discovered in the womb. The woman traveled from Moldova to Kyiv, where experienced surgeons operated on the infant immediately after birth and corrected the defect.
