In Ukraine, the reasons for the increase in egg prices, which began in October, are being investigated. This was reported on November 28 by the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU).
Information requests are being sent to business entities that:
The AMCU noted that this is not the first time they are responding to a surge in chicken egg prices. In October 2022, egg prices also rose, prompting an investigation. At that time, specialists analyzed data from market participants at each link of the supply chain—from production to consumer.
This year, the committee has once again focused on the rise in egg prices. It is noted that the price jump is similar to that which occurred in September-October 2022. Consequently, the scope of the ongoing investigation has been expanded to include 2024.
"After receiving responses from market participants to the requests and further analyzing all factors influencing the pricing behavior of business entities at each link in the product turnover, final conclusions will be drawn regarding the presence or absence of signs of violations of legislation on the protection of economic competition in the actions of participants in the involved commodity market," the AMCU added.
We remind you that Maksym Hopka, an analyst at the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club, explained why egg prices have surged and predicted even greater increases.
Oleh Pendzin, executive director of the Economic Discussion Club, warned that the prices of certain product groups will sharply rise before the holidays.
