Previously, North Korean soldiers participated in battles in Kursk, and now they have been spotted in Ukraine as well. Several units, intended to reinforce the Russian occupiers, have been deployed to the temporarily occupied Mariupol. They are being kept separate from Russian units.
This information was reported by CNN, citing sources within Ukrainian intelligence. It is noted that the Koreans were dressed in Russian uniforms, but are housed separately. They not only have different living quarters but also distinct food and entertainment options. They are reportedly not regular soldiers but "technical advisors." However, the purpose of their visit remains unclear.
"North Korean technical advisors have arrived in the Russian-occupied port city of Mariupol. The purpose of their visit is unclear, but they were seen in Russian uniforms. Their arrival expands the presence of the Russian ally along the entire front line," the report states.
CNN also added that North Korean soldiers have been observed in the Kharkiv region. Allegedly, they are joining the main units of the Russian army in small groups. However, the exact number of foreign mercenaries among the occupiers has not been disclosed. They are waiting for a better time to launch an offensive.
Several Ukrainian military personnel informed the publication about the presence of Koreans within the Russian army in the Kharkiv direction. This includes a representative of the military units in Kharkiv, Yevhen Romanov, and the commander of the combined unit of the 153rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, Nazar Kіshak. However, the Joint Task Force "Kharkiv" stated that this information is false and that there are no North Korean troops in the Kharkiv region.
"The claim regarding the presence of North Korean servicemen in the Kharkiv region is not true. The individual who is the source of this information is not an official spokesperson for the Joint Task Force 'Kharkiv' and commented on the operational situation beyond their competence," the statement reads.
The Joint Task Force "Kharkiv" also asserted that there have been no significant changes in the situation in the Kharkiv direction. Defense forces continue to repel the attacks of the Russian occupying troops.
About 20,000 North Korean soldiers have arrived in Russia. Most of the fighters are young people and even teenagers. However, they are well-trained. It is also known that elite unit fighters known as "combat slaves", considered one of the most brutal in the world, have been sent. These soldiers have been indoctrinated with ideology, preparing them to annihilate the "NATO devils" and enemies of the "beloved leader."
The Koreans are being dressed in Russian uniforms, thus disguising them as soldiers of the Russian army. In Kursk, they have already suffered their first losses. It is reported that several soldiers were killed, and even more were wounded, including a top general. He was injured during a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Russian positions near the village of Mariyno.
The Wall Street Journal explained why North Korean soldiers are willing to die for Russia. According to them, the residents of North Korea have no concept of peace outside their country. They are raised in a propaganda-driven information vacuum and are therefore ready to give their lives for their leader anywhere, even in Russia.
