In just one day, Ukraine loses up to 20 square kilometers of land, according to the media.

Ukraine is losing up to 20 square kilometers of territory each day, with Russian forces having seized 3,600 square kilometers over the course of a year. The most significant losses are occurring in the Donetsk region. In 2023, Ukraine has lost approximately 540 square kilometers overall, while reclaiming around 430 square kilometers.

Ukraine is losing up to 20 square kilometers of territory daily, with Russians having captured 3600 square kilometers over the year. The most significant losses are in the Donetsk region. In 2023, Ukraine overall lost about 540 square kilometers, while approximately 430 square kilometers were liberated.

The figures regarding the capture of Ukrainian lands are provided by the portal "Militarny" based on data from the DeepState service. The largest territorial losses recorded are in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, with the greatest offensive potential of the enemy concentrated in Donetsk. Over the year, the enemy advanced the most in the area of Velyka Novosilka — Ocheretyne, seizing over 2,400 km² of territory with a maximum depth of 45 km. In the New York – Siversk area, the adversary managed to gain control of at least 335 km² of territory throughout the year.

In the second half of 2024, the pace of the occupiers' offensive increased:

  • June — 100 km²/month and 3.4 km²/day;
  • July — 160 km²/month and 5.2 km²/day;
  • August — 370 km²/month and 12 km²/day;
  • September — 400 km²/month and 13.4 km²/day;
  • October — 560 km²/month and 18.7 km²/day;
  • November — 610 km²/month and 20.3 km²/day;
  • December — 510 km²/month and 16.45 km²/day.

In the Lyman and Kupiansk directions, the enemy gained control over at least 479 km² of territory over the year. In the northern part of Kharkiv, as a result of the offensive in May 2024, the adversary established control over 211 km² of territory and managed to seize control of 13 settlements. In Kherson region, over the year, the occupiers captured about 95 km², which as of December 2023 remained under the control of Defense Forces. More than half of the lost territories pertained to the eliminated enemy bridgehead in the village of Krynkі and the advance in the surrounding islands.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, the Defense Forces lost control over 97 km² of territory. The enemy was most successful in regaining control over areas lost near the village of Robotyne during the SOU offensive in 2023. The remaining changes are of a local nature. Additionally, in the Kamyanske area, the Defense Forces were able to improve their tactical position and regain control over approximately 5 km² of territory.

In the Kursk region, during an operation that began in August, the Ukrainian Defense Forces managed to take control of 1100 km² of territory within a month. By the end of the year, approximately 460 km² remained under Ukrainian control.
