A woman from Zaporizhzhia received a gas bill of 278,000 UAH after a meter inspection. Here are the details.

During an inspection, specialists from "Zaporozhgaz" discovered an external hole in the gas meter. As a result, the device was not accurately measuring gas consumption.

A resident of Zaporizhzhia received a gas bill amounting to 278,000 hryvnias. The gas distribution operator "Zaporizhgaz" calculated this amount after discovering unauthorized interference with the meter—specifically, a hole in the outlet pipe. The company filed a lawsuit demanding repayment from the subscriber. The Lenin District Court of Zaporizhzhia granted the claim in case No. 334/9866/23 on December 13, 2024.

The court's decision stated that specialists from "Zaporizhgaz" found an unauthorized opening in the outlet pipe during an inspection of the respondent's gas meter on September 28, 2022. According to the specialists, this caused the meter to not fully account for the volume of gas consumed. The device was dismantled and sent for examination, which confirmed the violations.

The subscriber was charged 278,474 UAH based on maximum volumes for the period from September 28, 2021, to September 27, 2022.

The woman opposed the full satisfaction of "Zaporizhgaz's" claim. She pointed out that the gas meter undergoes calibration by representatives of the gas company right before installation, and after the seal is placed, altering anything inside it without breaking the integrity of the seals is impossible. The respondent noted that the examination did not reveal any signs of tampering with the factory seals and stickers. According to her, the company did not prove any unauthorized interference with the operation of the device on her part.

The court decided to collect from the respondent in favor of "Zaporizhgaz" the amount of 278,474 hryvnias as the calculated debt. Additionally, the woman must pay 4,177 UAH in military tax.
