The EU has not taken an official stance either for or against the construction of new energy units at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.

There is no clear consensus among EU members regarding the development of new nuclear power generation capacities.
ЕС не занимает официальной позиции относительно строительства новых энергоблоков Хмельницкой АЭС, не поддерживая ни "за", ни "против".

The decision regarding the construction of new nuclear power generating facilities in Ukraine must be made solely by its authorities; the European Union has not expressed any official position on this matter, stated EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova.

"The EU has not taken an official stance either for or against the construction of new units at the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant. I clearly stated this in my interview with 'European Truth' back in December. (...) Whether to build additional nuclear capacities in Ukraine is a decision for the Ukrainian authorities," Maternova emphasized in response to a written inquiry from the agency "Interfax-Ukraine".

She added that, overall, there is no clear consensus among EU member states regarding the development of new nuclear generating capacities.

According to Maternova, Ukraine cannot rely on funding for nuclear construction from the EU and its financial institutions.

"Currently, the EU does not finance the construction of nuclear power plants. This applies to the nuclear power plants in Ukraine as well. And this also pertains to funding from European financial institutions," the ambassador stressed.
