The Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, condemned the stance of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding his desire to obtain rare earth resources from Ukraine, which he suggested should serve as a form of gratitude from Ukraine for protection guarantees. This point is part of the so-called "victory plan" put together by President Volodymyr Zelensky, which has attracted Trump's interest. This information was revealed in an article by the publication ntv.
"It would be very selfish to use the resources of a country to finance defense support," the politician noted.
Such statements were made by the German Chancellor following an informal European Union summit in Brussels. Scholz not only expressed his view that this is "selfish," but also commented on how valuable resources could be utilized in the future in Kyiv.
"The focus should be on enabling Ukraine to finance its reconstruction."
Olaf Scholz considers the reconstruction and recovery of the country after the war to be the "main tasks" that Ukraine will face after the conflict with Russia ends. He pointed out that the destruction in Ukraine is immense, hence these tasks are "significant."
"The country's resources should be used to fund everything that will be necessary after the war," the statement reads.
