By the end of this week, autumn will give way to winter. Meteorologist Natalia Ptukhа from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center shared insights on what December's weather will be like in a comment to "Facts ICTV" on November 29 reported.
The start of winter will bring fairly calm weather for Ukrainians. An anticyclone will dominate, so the first five days of December are expected to be mostly dry.
Fog is expected on Sunday, particularly in the north. This may pose a danger on the roads, so experts have urged drivers to exercise caution. Clearer conditions are anticipated starting Monday.
Daytime temperatures will range from -2 to +3 degrees. Nights will be a bit colder in the Carpathians, ranging from -1 to -6 degrees. During the day, the western and southern regions can expect temperatures between +3 and +9 degrees, while in Transcarpathia, it may reach up to +10.
On December 3-4, it will mostly be dry. On Wednesday afternoon, light rain mixed with snow may occur in the west and north. Daytime temperatures will range from -2 to +3 degrees, while in the south and west, they will be between 0 and +6 degrees. At night, temperatures may drop to between 0 and -6 degrees.
December 5-6 will also be predominantly dry. At night, temperatures will range from +2 to -4 degrees.
"I would note that a lot depends on cloud cover here — in regions where it clears up, there may be frosts, while in areas with more clouds, temperatures may hover around 0 degrees, with even a slight positive temperature possible at night," — explained Ptukhа.
Next Saturday, it will also be dry in the west and north. However, on December 8-9, wet snow and rain are expected across Ukraine. Nighttime temperatures will range from +2 to -4 degrees, while daytime temperatures will warm up to between -2 and +4 degrees. It will be warmer in the southern regions, from +2 to +8 degrees.
"In the last days of the first decade, on the 8th and 9th, we may see a significant change in weather conditions, and instead of the anticyclone that has dominated all weekend and maintained stable weather, atmospheric fronts from the west will arrive," — warned the meteorologist.
During the second decade, December's weather is also expected to be close to normal in terms of temperature readings. However, this period is anticipated to bring precipitation to Ukraine.
"The weather will no longer be characterized by an anticyclone; atmospheric fronts from the west will move into Ukraine. They will predominantly determine the weather," — emphasized Ptukhа.
From December 8 to 15, a greater influx of atmospheric fronts from the northwest is expected. Throughout the first and second decades of December, there will be no severe frosts, with the minimum air temperature reaching -6 degrees.
As a reminder, meteorologist Natalia Didenko shared the weather forecast for the weekend. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has announced a level I warning for Saturday.
