The Armed Forces of Ukraine have over a hundred military brigades that are not fully equipped with technology and weapons. This was emphasized by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on Tuesday, January 14, while commenting on proposals from partner countries to lower the conscription age to 18.
"We have more than 100 brigades in the field, and each of them needs daily reinforcement in terms of equipment," Zelensky noted, while refraining from providing exact figures due to security concerns.
He stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces primarily require armored vehicles and artillery.
"However, for many brigades, the equipment frequently breaks down or needs repairs," the president emphasized, noting that all these requests have been communicated to Ukraine's partners.
Zelensky stressed that the servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces must be well-trained and provided with the appropriate weapons.
"A person must be protected. Not just protected, but equipped with the right weapons and knowledge. This is what our partners should supply to the Ukrainian army," Volodymyr Zelensky concluded.
It is worth mentioning that Mike Waltz, a future national security advisor to the U.S. president, believes that Ukraine needs to lower the conscription age to 18. This, he claims, could yield "hundreds of thousands of new soldiers."
On November 30, 2024, MP Larysa Bilozir reported that Ukraine could mobilize an additional 3.7 million men over the next 25 years.
