"Pudu are the smallest deer in the world or among the smallest deer globally. This species grows to about 50 centimeters in height at the withers," explains Maximiliano Krause, a ranger and caregiver for a young pudu.
The southern pudu (Latin name: "Pudu puda") is classified by the IUCN as "endangered." According to the latest IUCN assessment conducted in 2016, its population has decreased by 20% over the past 12-15 years.
The "Temaikèn" Biopark provides a controlled environment for breeding and research, offering vital information for a better understanding of the reproductive biology of this elusive species.
