About six hundred nostalgic for Mussolini gathered in Predappio, the duce's hometown, to commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the "March on Rome" on October 28, 1922.

The procession, with most participants dressed in black, moved through the town and then arrived at the San Cassino cemetery, where Mussolini's family tomb is located. Among those present were Orsola and Vittoria Mussolini, the great-granddaughters of the founder of Italian fascism.

Roman salute not in public to avoid denunciations

According to attendees, Orsola thanked those gathered and requested a moment of silence. During the ceremony, prayers were recited by an aide and a legionnaire, after which people lined up to enter Benito Mussolini's tomb.

Participants in the ceremony were also asked not to give the Roman salute in public to avoid issues with public order. The daily newspaper Il Resto del Carlino reported that some attendees expressed confusion about this. Others said that the Roman salute was omitted, because "to avoid complaints and lawsuits, it's better to do it in private."

After leaving the ceremony, participants rushed to souvenir shops in Predappio in the province of Forlì-Cesena in Emilia-Romagna, later reported the Ansa agency.

The march of the National Fascist Party militants led by Benito Mussolini, aimed at pressuring Italy's leadership and seizing power in the country, was successful. Contrary to the Albertine Statute, Mussolini was appointed Prime Minister of Italy and formed the first fascist government.
