Co-chairman of the far-right German party "Alternative for Germany," Tino Chrupalla, will attend the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday. This information has been confirmed by party representatives to Euronews.
Meanwhile, another co-chair and chancellor candidate, Alice Weidel, will remain in Germany to focus on the election campaign, despite also having received an invitation.
Deputy Chair of the AfD parliamentary faction, Beatrix von Storch, will also be present at the event.
So far, neither Chancellor Olaf Scholz nor German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier have received invitations.
Scholz was one of the last European politicians to congratulate Trump on his reelection on platform X in November, doing so only after French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had already done so.
